Here's a regular reminder that most of your childhood is a lie.

Okay, that's an exaggeration. But at least good chunk of your memories from the 90s show Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers are not what they appear. As Hodges Usry explains in this brief-yet-thorough overview of the show's history, the martial arts abilities of these "teenagers with attitude" was actually footage from a Japanese television program that aired in the 70s, spliced into the American version.

By the magic of slick camera work and a lot of tenacity on the part of creator Haim Saban, we got the ass-kicking Power Rangers we know and loved to pretend to be as kids. Spoiler alert: The Yellow Ranger scenes are played by a man. (Extreme Alpha 5 voice) Aye yi yi yi yi!
